The Day we got eaten by a Dragon (Almost)

Saturday was a humid 90 some degree day as we sat alongside 300,000 of our closest friends to watch the Indianapolis 500 parade. In order to get good seats you have to A) be there an hour or more before it even starts. (But then your kids are in the scorching heat that much longer) Or B) you wait until the parade almost starts and then you can't see anything through the sea of people. So we packed a lunch, loaded up on water bottles and sunscreen and headed out early. We found a good spot a corner where the kids would be able to see the floats and the celebrities very well.
The sun was brutal. We took them into shady spots in rotation to help them escape the heat. By the time it started Grace and Cameron (the 2 biggest complainers) were ready to go home. Once the awesome balloons and marching bands started to come one after the other, all was forgotten
Olivia Newton John, Gladys Knight, Guy Fieri, Derek Hough from "Dancing With The Stars", Rick Springfield, Eddie Money, plus more I am probably forgetting.
One interesting thing about being on the corner of a parade route is watching the balloon handlers try to make the corners. Between the crowds, wind and skyscrapers, they had their work cut out for them. Nothing big happened until it was the giant golden dragons turn. This is one of the bigger balloons they had in the parade. Just when it was making its turn, the wind gusted and the dragon began to descend on us. Of course we were never in any danger, and it never reached us, but it felt as those it was getting ready to swallow us whole. Very cool!
