A few weeks back, the kids and I traveled to Columbus, Indiana for another Co-op fieldtrip. Our destination was,"Zaharakos". It is an old fashion soda shop and ice cream parlor that has been opened since 1900. We explored the tiny museum next door filled with soda fountains of all shapes and ages. In the center of the main resturant area stands a self playing organ filled with music of the era. We tasted their creamy homemade ice cream that I found out later had triple the normal milk fat. No wonder it tasted heavenly. The kids tried the famous "green river" soda drink and devoured the giant hotdogs. After a trip to the basement to see how the ice cream is made, we enjoyed a demostration of the real working soda fountain. The kids had a good time on the field trip and talk about going back.
